Dr. Sheetal Patel is a board certified general surgeon and fellowship trained bariatric surgeon. She graduated cum laude from Baylor University in 1997 with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. She then worked as a researcher in the department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She went on to receive her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Dr. Patel completed her residency training in general surgery at the University of Illinois Metropolitan Group Hospitals in Chicago, Illinois. As a resident physician, she was the recipient of the MVP Physician Excellence Award from the Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. She received further specialized training at Cleveland Clinic Florida where she completed the Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery fellowship program.

Dr. Patel is a specialist in minimally invasive (laparoscopic) and robotic surgery for obesity and metabolic syndrome. She uses the Da Vinci Robotic System to perform robotic weight loss procedures, foregut surgery (hiatal/paraesophageal hernias). Dr. Patel also performs various general surgical procedures (gallbladder removal, abdominal wall hernia repairs, skin and soft tissue procedures) using minimally invasive techniques.

Dr. Patel has been published in multiple medical journals including Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, Obesity Surgery, Bariatric Times and Contemporary Surgery. She has also presented numerous research studies at the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. She is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and the Texas Medical Association.
